Your mental health can be impacted by a variety of behavioral, physical, or social factors. We can provide several different resources to support you in your mental health journey. Health Improvement Practitioners

Health Improvement Practitioners (HIP) are qualified health professionals, with experience in physical and mental health, who have completed specialist training in the Te Tumu Waiora primary mental health model.


The HIP is part of the general practice team and sees people of all ages and stages of life, who are experiencing health related problems that are impacting on daily function and wellbeing. They will support you to make a behavioural change plan based on the issue that is most important to you at the time of being seen.


HIP's have the knowledge and skills to support you with:

  • Managing difficult thoughts, feelings and behaviours
  • Stress, anxiety, depression and low mood
  • Coping with loss
  • Sleep problems
  • Drug and alcohol problems
  • Family or relationship issues, domestic violence, parenting
  • Chronic pain
  • Living with the side-effects of illness and health conditions
  • Navigating gender identity, sexual orientation
  • Social isolation
  • Feeling stuck
